Daily Production Recap Process

Turn Caddis Data into Actionable Insights

Purpose

This playbook helps manufacturers use Caddis to establish a consistent daily production recap habit that encourages accountability, transparency, and quick resolution of production issues.

Outcomes

  • Team visibility on what happened the previous day
  • Proactive discussion of downtime and performance trends
  • Clear handoff from shift to shift
  • More reliable tracking of daily wins and problems

Core Tool: Active Runs History

The foundation of the recap process is the Active Runs History in Caddis. This view provides a timestamped record of what machines were running, what tags were applied (operator, job, part), and what events occurred during the previous day.

Step-by-Step Daily Recap Process

1. Assign a Recap Owner

Pick a supervisor, team lead, or planner to own the recap process each day.

2. Export Active Runs Data

  • Navigate to Active Runs History in Caddis
  • Filter for yesterday's date
  • Export as CSV or JSO
  • Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets

3. Prepare a 5-Minute Recap Sheet

Include these columns:

  • Equipment Name
  • Run Start & Stop Time
  • Operator (Tag)
  • Job or Part Tag
  • Run Duration
  • Excessive Downtime Count
  • Notes from the Run (downtime reason, PM, etc.)

4. Share During Shift Startup

  • Summarize key issues or standout performances
  • Highlight any unresolved events from yesterday
  • Document action items or follow-ups

5. Track Trends Over Time

  • Use a simple shared log to record recap summaries
  • Review trends weekly in your CI meeting (e.g., repeated issues, top performers, etc.)

Sample Recap Talking Points

  • "Yesterday, the CNC press had two excessive downtime events during Job J0331. Let’s check what happened."
  • "Shift A completed 6 hours of runtime on the mill—great improvement from last week."
  • "Operator Sam flagged a vibration concern. Has maintenance followed up?"
  • "No PM was triggered yesterday—do we have any coming up we should prepare for?"

Tips for Success

  • Keep it consistent: 10 minutes max every morning
  • Use tag categories to drill into trends by operator, shift, or part
  • Share recap highlights digitally with managers or CI leads
  • Rotate recap ownership weekly to build team involvement
